Jonathan Roumie is an accomplished actor, producer, director, and voice-over artist best known for his award-winning portrayal of ‘Jesus’ in the groundbreaking series THE CHOSEN. The wildly popular drama explores the life of Jesus Christ and the calling of his initial Disciples. With a 7-season commitment, THE CHOSENhas become a global phenomenon, currently ranking as the most translated TV show in the world, available in nearly 50 languages, with a goal of reaching 600 languages. The critically acclaimed series has set records as the highest crowdfunded media project of all time, raising over $50 million in its first three seasons, and boasts a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Born and raised in New York City, Roumie graduated from The School of Visual Arts with a degree in filmmaking. He initially worked behind the scenes before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a full-time acting career. Roumie’s television appearances include roles in CHICAGO MED, THE MINDY PROJECT, THE GOOD WIFE, LAW & ORDER, and the NCISfranchise, among others.
In addition to his on-camera work, Roumie has a thriving career as a voice-over artist. He has worked on numerous animation projects for film and television, as well as in renowned video game franchises. His recent projects include the Disney+ animated sequel NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: KAMUNRAH RISES AGAIN, CASTLEVANIA: NOCTURNE and TOMB RAIDER: THE LEGEND OF LARA CROFT for Netflix. Upcoming projects include The Chosen Adventures (Animated) (2025), and Hideo Kojima's long-awaited sequel to his cinematic Interactive masterpiece, DEATH STRANDING 2 (2025).
Roumie has also lent his voice to various corporate and entertainment clients, including American Express, ESPN, MTV, Nick Jr., McDonald's, ABC-TV, CBS-TV, A&E, and Audible.com to name a few.
He serves as a Narrative Voice and Creative Advisor for the HALLOW APP, the largest and most popular prayer and meditation app in the world, where he leads numerous prayer challenges, daily prayers, and reflections.
Due to his ecumenical work in ministry and the arts, Roumie has received several titles of knighthood. His current titles include Esquire in the Universal Archconfraternity of Papal Knights, Dames, and Esquires; Knight of Columbus (Honorary Lifetime Member of the 3rd Degree); Knight of the Order Valiant of St. George; and Grand Officier in the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, where he also serves as his Priory’s chaplain.
This past spring, Jonathan was awarded a Doctorate of Fine Arts, Honoris Causa, by The Catholic University of America for his cultural impact. He also won the 2024 K-LOVE Fan Award for TV Impact for the Amazon Prime docuseries JONATHAN AND JESUS, which he hosted and executive produced. This four-part docuseries takes viewers around the world with Roumie as he visits iconic sites in Rome, feeds refugees in Paris, engages with fans, and meets notable musicians of faith. Notable figures featured in the docuseries include Alice Cooper, Pope Francis, Sheila E., and Francis Chan.
Additionally, Roumie has had the distinct honor of meeting Pope Francis twice: first in 2021 during the filming of his docuseries JONATHAN AND JESUS, and again in 2022 during a global summit of artists aimed at promoting faith through artistic expression.
In 2025, Roumie will star alongside comedian Kevin James in the romantic comedy SOLO MIO. This marks Roumie's second co-lead role in a feature film, following his captivating performance in the 2023 Lionsgate drama, JESUS REVOLUTION, where his portrayal of the real-life, enigmatic hippie street preacher Lonnie Frisbee earned him critical praise. The film, a rousing success, grossed over $50 million at the box office.
